Unique Benefit Concert for Beach Baby's Doula services
On Saturday, March 28th, 2009 at 6:30 PM.
At the Clubhouse, in downtown Myrtle Beach, SC
The night will start up with several original local acoustic acts and a Wilmington area stand-up poet. Around 9:30, several favorite local pop and rock bands, including Attalaya and Camazotz End will play until 12:30, when anyone starting to get a bit sleepy will be wide awake after the first song by Wilmington area hard core punk rock band "In Loving Memory". This show is in keeping with the Clubhouse's reputation for supporting live, local music, often booked on Fridays by Mike Woods, and Saturdays by Promotional Manager, Joey Amendola . Earlier in the year the Clubhouse was host to Myrtle Stock, a very successful benefit show for Street Reach organized by Nick Ciery, and was recently voted top live music venue by the Weekly Surge. It is loved not only for its support of live, local music, but also for its extensive menu, ranging from tofu to steaks, served fresh until 1AM.
The night will start off with local song writer, Gentry Dodd, sharing his original acoustic songs and skillful guitar playing, followed by Judy Schoeck, who has been writing club songs and devotionals since the 1970's. Her songs are written in variety of styles and arise from the heart, to speak to a moment that no other song addresses. She has played clubs on Long Island and now shares her devotionals within her spiritual community, including songs from her album "The Very Best Wine". Brian West, who played a previous Beach Baby's benefit, "The One and All Music Party" at the Pirate's Cove will also share his insightful, well-written lyrics. The acoustic portion of the evening will close out with Ryan David Miller, author of Elephants and Ashtrays, performing his mood altering poetry above a backdrop of acoustic guitar by Jon Senna, a gifted singer/songwriter in his own right.
The atmosphere will change around 9:30 with the introduction of Camazotz End, a high energy pop/rock band which plays bass, guitar and drums throughout its quirky songs, and also interjects banjo, kazoo, and a percussion instrument similar to a xylophone at various moments. Bassist Drew Jacobs is known in the area, not only from Camazotz End, but several other local bands as well, including SAVAS, Wicked Gift and the Wicked Awesomes. He lauds Camazotz End as one of his favorite groups to work with so far. Camazotz End will perform several songs written within the last few months, which even their most ardent fans may not have heard yet. Next up is Attalaya, a tight three piece rock ensemble, who will soon introduce their new CD, "Escape". Attalaya's last album was voted number five in the top ten by South Carolina Scene. Next up is Crowns, a duo of drum, vocals and guitar, from Sumter, SC which flavors its rock with blues and jazz. Last, but not least is "In Loving Memory", which describes themselves as " the sound track to a night of arson". They promise walking bass lines, energetic lyrics punctuated by occasional screams, and vocal harmonies.
There is sure to be something for everyone who attends, and for a $5 suggested donation, the price is just right!
